Kaporos observers “should be cultivating mercy for all those who suffer and not be perpetuating pain on sentient creatures in the name of
piety.” – Orthodox Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz,
A Yom Kippur of Mercy or Cruelty? | The Jewish Week.
This year the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos is directing our Change.org Petition to Rabbi David Zwiebel, Executive Vice President of Agudath
Israel of America in New York City.
Agudath Israel of America is an influential organization that represents the very religious, non-Chasidic, Ashkenazi Jews. Sources say many of
their members probably do Kaporos with chickens.
Please click on our Change.org Petition and add your signature, and if possible a few thoughtful words of your own, about why you are petitioning
Agudath Israel of America to urge Kaporos observers to wave money instead of chickens in the week leading up to Yom Kippur (the Jewish Day of
Atonement) which this year starts at sunset September 25 and ends at nightfall September 26. Click on the Petition:

Note:
This year, the Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos will hold two 2-hour protest demonstrations in Brooklyn neighborhood Boro Park on
Sunday, September 23 and Monday, September 24. A detailed Action Alert will be posted shortly. For more information, background
and updates, please visit www.EndChickensAsKaporos.com.
The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos is a project of United Poultry Concerns which was launched in 2010. It is an association of groups and
individuals who seek to replace the use of chickens in Kaporos rituals with money or other non-animal symbols of atonement. The Alliance does
not oppose Kaporos per se, only the cruel and unnecessary use of chickens.
